چکیده

© 2006 FRILOT PARTRIDGE, LC WWW.FRILOTPARTRIDGE.COM 504.599.8000 The modern scientifi c thinking on Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) began with the study of the primitive Fore tribe (pronounced 4-a) in eastern New Guinea. There had long been a strange neurologic disease in the cannibalistic jungle tribe. Some of the Fore people, primarily the women and children, began to have diffi culty walking. The disease then progressed into a generalized tremor, slurred speech, bizarre behavior and a fi xed facial grimace resembling a smile. Called the “laughing death,” its name is Kuru. Ending in violent, uncontrolled movements, nystagmus and wasting, it was 100% fatal just as CJD is today.
